Local Tip

Watch the show at the start of your Valletta visit — it gives useful context for every other site you'll see.

The Malta Experience is an award-winning audio-visual attraction housed in the building of the former Holy Infirmary of the Order of St John, within the Mediterranean Conference Centre complex. Using large-screen projection and multilingual headphones, the 45-minute show takes visitors on a journey through 7,000 years of Maltese history — from the megalithic temple builders and the Phoenicians, through the Romans, Arabs, and the Knights of St John, to the Great Siege, Napoleon's brief occupation, British rule, and Malta's role in World War II.

The show is available in over a dozen languages and is widely regarded as the best single introduction to the island's long and layered past. Many visitors combine it with a guided tour of the adjacent Sacra Infermeria, the Knights' hospital, whose vast vaulted halls are among the longest historic interiors in Europe.
