Cooking is at a good level in this tiny restaurant. The menu is also small, though it is fleshed out with daily specials, and dominated by Italian dishes. Amongst the regular starters, the fiore di zucca ripeno (fried Zuchinni flower) is at €9, and a beef tartare is at €21.50. Pasta/risotto dishes include an excellent risotto cacio e pepe con gambero rosso (cheese/pepper risotto with red prawns) at €20.50, and an interesting octopus fettucine at €18.50. For mains there is a Black Angus tagliata at €35.50 and a slow cooked pork knuckle at €28.50. Specials often include a lasagna and lots of other pasta dishes for just €14.50.
Atmosphere at Nduja (Nduja Osteria): 6/10
Tucked away in one of Valletta’s back streets, this is a small restaurant, and can seem crowded (for example at lunch on Sunday). It is a single bare floor wooden room, with wooden tables, and the kitchen is at the back. The crowd is mainly Maltese though there are a few tourists.

The owner rushes around, and it is important to catch his eye at busy times. There is a medium sized selection of Italian wines, with good choice on the reds at reasonable prices. Barbera d’Alba is just €20, and a Montepulciano €23. Valpollicella ripasso Farina is €30. Address and contact info:
