Food at Brasserie Rodin: 14/20
I bemoan the sad lack of French restaurants in Malta so Brasserie Rodin gets my vote. This one has many good French dishes, mixed with some Maltese (I presume the tourists demand it). Onion Soup is good at € 15.00. There are lots of other French dishes - a Quiche Lorraine and Mussels Marinière both at € 18.00Coquille St Jacques at € 18.50, snails at 16 and Steak Tartare € 24.00. There are even escargots at € 16.00 and, a rare thing in Malta, a Foie Gras de Canard at € 22.00. Main Courses include Coq-au-Vin at €21, a good Poussin (baby chicken) at €22. Calves Liver is €22, Beef Bourguignon €28, Duck Confit at €28, Veal and Lamb Shanks €28. There are pan seared salmon and sea bass at €26 and Bouillabaisse at €26
Atmosphere at Brasserie Rodin: 7/10
This is a small restaurant and seating can be cramped. We often seem to get seated in front of the wine fridge and have to get up to be served what we order. There is an outside terrace, under cover, but the street is busy. This is St. Julian’s after all. The crowd is dominated by tourists, a lot of them Brits.
Service at Brasserie Rodin: 7/10
Service is friendly, but we have had orders that go wrong, so it is worth repeating to make sure they have got it right. The wine list is very good for this level of restaurant, again the French influence, with some excellent bargains amongst the good wines.
