Food at AARON'S (Aaron's Kitchen): 15/20
This restaurant gets points for its innovative cooking with a good variety of dishes that go beyond the Maltese staples of fish, pasta and rabbit. Though these dishes are present to please the tourists, and there is a nod to local tastes with the traditional Maltese platters and a starter that includes smoked Maltese sausage. They declare they have a “passion for food.” Prices are also quite reasonable for Valletta. Highlights include suckling pig at €25.50 with the traditional crispy skin, duck breast served with honey from the neighbouring island of Gozo at €24, and veal chop at €28. Quite a few cuts of beef, including ‘Aaron’s Kitchen Beef Fillet Special’ at € 38.00, wrapped in Parma Ham and served with King Prawns and a Brandy Bisque. Lots of sauces on the side charged separately at €3.50. Sides are €3.50 to €5.
Atmosphere at AARON'S (Aaron's Kitchen): 6/10
The room is modern in style with wooden tables and feels a little like a relaxed gastro pub. Tables on the street if you can brave the passing crowds. This is not the place to take your biggest client or your richest friend, but a good place for a casual dinner with pals. The crowd is overwhelmingly tourist, particularly Brits and Americans, this is Valletta after all. The noise level is medium.
Service at AARON'S (Aaron's Kitchen): 6/10
Some of the waiters are quite outstanding, but overall, when the restaurant is busy the dishes can come out of the kitchen a little slowly. Major on those breadsticks. The wine list is well priced with a good selection of Italian wines at around the €30 euro mark which won’t break the bank. There is also a good selection of cocktails at only €7 or €8. If you don’t know negroni sbagliato this is a good place to try it.
