The Three Cities — Birgu, Senglea, and Cospicua — are among Malta's most atmospheric neighbourhoods, and they remain criminally undervisited by tourists who stay in St Julian's or Valletta. Senglea in particular has one of the finest waterfronts on the island, with unobstructed views back across the Grand Harbour to Valletta's famous skyline. Novità knows this, and it makes the most of it.
What Is Novità?
Novità is a Mediterranean waterfront restaurant on Senglea's main promenade. The name means "novelty" in Italian, which is slightly ironic since the cooking is reassuringly familiar rather than innovative — fresh pasta, grilled fish, seasonal vegetables, and local specials. But sometimes familiar done well is exactly what you want.
It's the kind of place that works best when you arrive early, grab a terrace table, and watch the Grand Harbour change colour as the sun goes down over Valletta.

The menu leans Italian-Mediterranean with strong local influences. The kitchen cooks with care rather than ambition — you're not going to be surprised, but you're unlikely to be disappointed either.

- Fresh pasta dishes — solid, generously portioned, well-seasoned.

Portions are reasonable for the price. The cooking is honest and unpretentious. Don't come expecting fireworks — do come expecting a satisfying meal in a spectacular setting.

The location does most of the heavy lifting here — and what a location it is.
The waterfront terrace at Novità is one of the nicest places to eat in the Three Cities. Boats bobbing on the harbour, Valletta's fortifications across the water, the occasional ferry chugging past. On a warm evening with a glass of wine, it's close to perfect.
The interior is more ordinary — a simple dining room without much character — so if you're visiting, do everything you can to get a terrace table.

The Service (7/10)
Friendly and efficient. The staff are happy to explain the menu and genuinely welcoming. It's not the slickest operation — timing between courses can be slightly off on busy evenings — but the warmth is real.

Is Novità Worth Visiting?
Yes — especially if you're exploring the Three Cities.
Novità won't displace Malta's top fine dining restaurants in your memory. But paired with a walk through Senglea's atmospheric streets and a cold drink watching the harbour, it's a genuinely lovely way to spend an afternoon or evening.
For visitors who've already done Valletta and want a quieter, more local experience, Senglea is a great choice — and Novità is a reliable place to eat when you get there. The views alone are worth the ferry ride from Valletta (€2.80 return).
