Skorba is a prehistoric site in the village of MĔarr, Malta, of immense importance to archaeologists because it provides the clearest evidence for the chronology of Maltese prehistory. Excavations in the 1960s revealed a sequence of occupation from the early Neolithic (Għar Dalam phase, c.5000 BC) through the Red Skorba and Grey Skorba phases to the full temple period, allowing archaeologists to build a timeline for the development of Maltese temple culture.
The site contains the remains of two temple structures and earlier village dwellings. Though less visually spectacular than the major temple sites, Skorba is part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing of the Megalithic Temples of Malta and is essential for understanding how Malta's extraordinary temple-building tradition evolved. Access is by appointment or scheduled open days ā check the Heritage Malta website before visiting.
