Food at Samizu: 12/20
This restaurant has yet to find its feet, and is not a place for serious Foodies. More for those who like the view. The current menu is a mixture of casual dining and American/International style food. It's a round the world tour that must exhaust the chef. Starters include everything from Bang Bang Chicken tacos at €18 to pork bao buns at €18, with beef tartare (€16) and seabass ceviche (€15) in between. Of course there are sliders (€16). A few Italian bits calamari fritti (€16), 'la scarpetta obbligatoria' mussels at €12, rissottos and pasta, including weirdly pappardelle with sweet soy beef ragu at €16/€18. Main courses seem more straightforward and American – steaks in the thirties, a burger at €20, and a French rack at €26. Prices really should be lower for this standard.
Atmosphere at Samizu: 8/10
The best thing about this restaurant is its location right on the marina, which gives you very much a holiday feel. This happens in Winter and summer. Inside is a modern space and there are large glass windows onto the marina. Outside in warm weather there are tables. The crowd is a mix of locals and yachters feeling trendy. Music is loud unless you complain.
Service at Samizu: 7/10
The service is friendly and competent. There are cocktails and a wine list which has a few treasures. Prices are as you would expect, if a little expensive for Malta, though there are three good Bordeaux reds in the fifties.
