France m’en bon roughly translates as “I’m good in France” and so you are here. There is a definite lack of French restaurants in Malta which is surprising given the size of the French community. This little place has become a mecca for them. Classic brasserie cooking here with generous portion sizes – value for money is good. Standouts amongst the starters include French onion soup, and large prawns in a creamy sauce at €14. The main courses are hearty and vary in price according to the market, though mainly in the twenties, half a rotisseries chicken is a steal at €12. The real signature dish is the Beef bourguignon which is delicious, there is also steak with a cognac sauce, coq au vin, and lamb with a creamy garlic sauce. This is not the ideal place for those with a dairy allergy.

Tucked away in an alley behind the American University in Bormla, you come here for the food, not the ambiance. It feels a bit like a student café, with under-curated walls and tables. Nonetheless, the quality of the food ensures that this place is packed with French punters, whether locals or visitors. There is normally soft music in the background, maybe Bob Dylan, and the noise level is good. There are outside tables in the alley.
